Joanna Richardson

Joanna took her first pottery course by accident in university when she found out the Fine Art teacher was on sabbatical. Despite being initially skeptical, she was drawn in to the craft of clay. After completing her Cultural Studies degree at Trent University and unable to shake the pottery bug, Joanna went on to study Fine Craft Ceramics at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Post graduation, her ceramic practice deepened during a Practicum at the Banff Center.
Now based in Ottawa, Joanna enjoys making simple pots with a lot of care. She invites users to look and feel closely and to take a quiet moment when exploring pieces. Joanna loves the ability for clay to be both technical and creative, functional and sculptural, mundane and extraordinary, and she can't help but get excited about learning with her students!
