Ishtar Warda

Ishtar Warda is an independent ceramic artist from the Greater Toronto Area. After acquiring a Master’s in Ancient Philosophy at the University of Oxford, she decided to put a pause on her academic career and pursued travel instead of a doctoral degree. She first encountered clay in South Korea when she enrolled in a mug making day class over a year ago. She took regular classes throughout her time living and teaching there, allowing her to learn South Korean styles of thrown and hand-built pottery. She subsequently enrolled in the Fleming HSAD Ceramics certificate program where she combined Western and Eastern styles of ceramic making.

As a recent graduate of the Ceramics certificate program, she seeks to develop her practice by paying homage to and incorporating her indigenous Assyrian heritage and philosophical approach to creating and interpreting ceramic art. Ishtar primarily enjoys creating functional wares, with particular interest in designing and creating teapots on the wheel!
